Rupi Kaur World Tour

The Collab of a Life Time

Jassal says it was a true collaboration; the two travelled to New York City in early 2022 to seek out fabrics and talk through Kaur’s vision for the tour. “Rupi wanted everything to be different,” Jassal says, which meant 59 distinct looks for the duration of the five-continent tour. “We wanted to put sarees and lenghas on the world stage and incorporate our culture into it, but to also do looks that weren’t so cultural,” says Jassal. The process became so consuming that she skipped producing a collection for her own brand in 2022.

So we started fabric shopping together in December and designed them together. Some of the looks she's entirely created herself, and some I've been like, "This is what I want," so it's been a collaboration every step of the way. She's so talented, and we've had so much fun working on making them together.

Toronto fashion designer Mani Jassal was in labour with her now-seven-month-old son while finalizing the last stage dress for poet Rupi Kaur’s world tour. “My water broke and I took the design into the hospital with me,” she says. Kaur had completed the European and North American legs of her tour and was about to head out to Australia and Asia, just as Jassal was heading into her own new adventure.
